The Alyn Valley stretches from the southern end of the Clwydian hills, where the River Alyn rises in the Llandegla Moors, through attractive landscapes that include the Loggerheads Country Park (Loggerheads), the Alyn Gorge (between Loggerheads and Rhydymwyn) and the Alyn Waters Country Park (Gwersyllt), before draining into the River Dee close to Rossett.| The Upper Alyn Valley forms part of the Clwydian Range of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Between Loggerheads and Rhydymwyn it runs through the Alyn Gorge, which is the site of the caves Ogof Hesp Alyn, Ogof Hen Ffynhonau and Ogof Nadolig. For parts of this stretch the bed of the River Alun is dry for most of the year. From Rhydymwyn the Alyn flows on the edge of the market town of Mold and then south easterly through Pontblyddyn, Hope and Caergwrle to what I will call the Lower Alyn Valley between Sydallt and Gwersyllt and the Alyn Waters Country Park.| The country park offers woodland, grassland and riverside walks and a Visitor Centre offering a cafe and shop, together with exhibitions on the history and wildlife of the Park. Throughout the year the Park Service runs a programme of events and activities and a cycleway offers safe cycling for families with, apart from two steep paths down to the river, mostly gentle slopes and exciting sculptures to view.| The Bryn Alyn hillfort, to the North West of Wrexham, heralds a change in the character of the Alyn Valley where the remains of colliery buildings are evidence of its industrial past. From here the valley continues past the charming villages of Gresford, Marford and Rossett to the confluence of the River Alyn with the River Dee.
