St Mary Street Cardiff City_of_Cardiff Wales
The Shopping Arcades in Cardiff are situated in the City Centre, City of Cardiff, Wales. The City of Cardiff has several shopping arcades that are a pleasant way to shop, especially in inclement weather conditions. Rain is not uncommon in Wales. Most are of Victorian origin and offer a wealth of interesting old and specialised shops, although there are some more modern additions to this genre. I dislike shopping intensely, but the arcades are different, the experience being a mixture of nostalgia ...with proper toy shops; people watching ...in pleasant cafes; an architectural history tour ...indeed some shops have original 19th century shopfronts; and just a general tourist attraction. They also have the added bonus of being free. The Victorian arcades include the Castle Arcade off Castle Street; Duke Street Arcade off Duke Street and High Street; High Street Arcade off St Mary Street; Morgan Arcade off St Mary Street; the Wyndham Arcade off Mill Lane and St Mary Street; and the oldest arcade the Royal Arcade off St Mary Street and The Hayes. More recent arcades include the St David's Centre, the Queens Arcade and the Capitol Centre, and although I have not ventured inside I suspect these are more arcade by name than nature, in other words modern shopping centres.
