The Square Corwen Denbighshire Wales
Owain Glyndwr (1350-1416)was a Welsh gentryman and loyal supporter of the English King Richard II. But in 1400 he raised an army and rebelled against the English rule. This was no ordinary medieval rebellion as the campaign lasted for 16 years and indeed at times threatened the crown of England. In 2007 the townsfolk of Corwen raised a magnificent statue to their favourite son in the town square. The bronze statue commissioned from the artist and sculptor Colin Spofforth is a magnificent work of art and a fitting memorial to Wales' greatest hero. Glyndwr was never captured, never betrayed, and steadfastly refused a pardon to the end. He may have been an outlaw to the English, but to the Welsh, he was, and still is, the last true Prince of Wales.
