Llangloffan Cheese, Farm Visitor Centres Llanllwch, Carmarthenshire - Wales where to go, what to see and where to stay in Wales

Boksburg Hall Llanllwch Carmarthenshire Wales
This is where Leon and Joan Downey, who describe themselves as city folk, settled from Cheshire in the spring of 1977. Leon was co-principal viola in the Hallé Orchestra under the baton of Sir John Barbirolli and Joan was a secretary when they decided to face the challenge of making a living producing unpasteurised cheese from a run-down, allegedly non-viable Welsh smallholding. What they brought with them, apart from their unbounded enthusiasm for real handmade cheese and an admitted lack of agricultural experience, was an understanding of the kind of cheese they and other people were beginning to demand. Their ambition, now already gratifyingly fulfilled, was to build an enterprise which produced high quality handmade traditional unpasteurised cheese, uncontaminated food and at the same time involved the general public. Following a visit to Llangloffan Cheese in 2001 by HRH The Prince of Wales, St James' Palace said, 'The Downeys are the living example of what HRH The Prince of Wales is trying to encourage in the regeneration of the countyside'.
