Where can you launch a hot air balloon, blast a rocket, create an electrical circuit and watch a colony of ants at work all in one day? Techniquest the hands-on science centre in Cardiff Bay. Children and adults alike are enthralled by the vast array of puzzles, gadgets and structures in the main exhibition hall. Then, when you tire of playing, you can relax and take in a show in the Science Theatre, or gaze at the stars in the Planetarium. Throughout the year Techniquest offers a range of programmes and special events on different topics, all designed to engage people in science. Many of the special events take place at weekends and in school holidays as during term time Techniquest runs special education programmes for schools. Finding a day out that will keep the whole family entertained is no easy task, but at Techniquest there is something to keep everyone happy for a couple of hours or more. When the energy is flagging Café Quest is an oasis overlooking the waterfront. Hot and cold meals, sandwiches, snacks, drinks and confectionary are all available. Allow time to visit the Techniquest shop where you can find toys and books on science themes in addition to other interesting gifts and souvenirs. Techniquest has an in-house workshop team that design, build, install and maintain our exhibits. Techniquest sells and hires out exhibits to other institutions in more than thirty countries worldwide. It once sold a hydrogen rocket to the visitor centre at NASA. Every year about half a million people around the world get a Techniquest experience of some kind.
