B4353 Llancynfelyn Ceredigion Wales
Llancynfelyn Church is located in the parish and village of Llancynfelyn, Ceredigion, Wales. The church stands some nine miles north of Aberystwyth on the B4353 close to the main A487 road, and the same distance south of Machynlleth. | The church, dedicated to St Cynvelyn, was originally erected in the sixth century. The present church was restored, or rather rebuilt, during Victorian times. There are several fine stained glass windows within the church. |The Church is home to the Parish War Memorial to the men of Llancynfelyn who fell during both World Wars.| It is sad to here of the ancient churches being “restored” by Victorian architects, however the old building may have been beyond repair. | An extract from the Topographical Dictionary of Wales by Samuel Lewis (1840) states “The ancient church, dedicated to St. Cynvelyn, a very ancient structure, and in a very delapidated condition, was originally erected in the sixth century, and is about to be rebuilt by voluntary subscription.”
