St Michaels Church Llandre, Churches and Chapels Llandre, Ceredigion - Wales where to go, what to see and where to stay in Wales

Llandre Ceredigion Wales
The Church of St Michael, Llandre is located in the village of Llandre, Ceredigion, Wales. Traditionally known as the church of Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn the church stands, with its historic lychgate, on the hillside above the main village. | The present church is of 1885, replacing a medieval predecessor. The architect, Archibald Ritchie, was notable for his use of a variety of window forms and the stained glass windows are a particular feature of the church. | The graveyard boasts a 2000 year old yew tree, one of the oldest in Wales.| In the 21st Century the Parochial Church Council, commissioned Catalina Architecture to carry out a feasibility and design study, for the provision of rooms and facilities to the rear of the nave for church and community use. The completed scheme included exhibition/meeting/worship spaces, an accessible wc, and tea-making facilities. The new Visitor Centre at Llandre is a great idea and a model that might save many other threatened Welsh churches. | The church is open daily to visitors, and it is intended that displays on the theme of Treftadaeth Llandre Heritage will be on semi-permanent display in the new space. | The local community in conjunction with Cydcoed Wales have developed signboards and a number of walks, and a holy well near the lychgate has been restored and a seat provided.
