Wales and Borders Welshpool Powys Wales
The Montgomery Canal runs 35 miles from its junction with the Llangollen Canal at Welsh Frankton in Shropshire, through
Queens Head, Maesbury Marsh, Crickheath, Llanymynych, Four Crosses, Arddlin, Welshpool, Llywynderw, Berriew, Garthmyl, Fron, Abermule, to Newtown in Powys. The landscape is almost entirely rural and the canal is a haven for wildlife. Although
derelict for many years the Montgomery Canal is now being reborn and more than half of the waterway is now in water. At present only certain sections are navigable by boat, but the canal offers many opportunities for walkers, anglers and
cyclists and for those who just appreciate the wildlife and tranquillity of the Welsh Border lands.
