Newport Sands Beach, Newport, Pembrokeshire is a broad and long beach at the mouth of the River Nevern. The river rises at Blaencwm, to the east of Crymych, is around 11 miles in length and discharges into the Irish Sea. Newport Sands is in Cardigan Bay, facing the Irish Sea and is a popular flat sandy beach stretching along the coastline over 1.5 miles backed by sand dunes. The beach is big enough for all beach activities and at low tide it is possible to cross, by wading through the river, to Newport Parrog. In 2010 Newport Sands was awarded the Blue Flag and Seaside Award. A popular destination for all types of watersports enthusiasts, swimming, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing are among the activities that take place here. The estuary and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Coastal Path also attracts bird watchers and walkers alike
