Damselflies are insects in the order Odonata. These damselflies were photographed at Llyn Elsi in the Gwydyr Forest, North Wales. They are similar to dragonflies, but noticeably smaller. Like dragonflies, damselflies mature underwater, and the carnivorous nymphs feed on small aquatic organisms, using extendable jaws. After moulting the winged adult emerges from a shell like skeleton and eats flies, mosquitoes, and other small insects.
