The Peacock butterfly (Inachis io), is a colourful butterfly so named after its similarities with the markings on the Peacock's feathers. Our picture was taken in the Gwydyr Forest close to Lyn Elsi on the hills above the Conwy Valley in early September 2011. There were many hundreds of the butterflies feeding on common knapweed in the bright sunshine. In the British Isles, the butterfly is found in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and often winters in buildings or trees.
