Melmerby
The cosy little village of Melmerby sits north east of Penrith in Cumbria, North West England. With a population of less than 300, Melmerby has maintained its country village-like atmosphere, which is one of the reasons why so many people decide to visit each year. The village is also famous for its bakery, which produces award-winning cakes and breads.
The stone circle of Long Meg and Her Daughters is close by. The circle is the third largest in England and remains one of Cumbria's most loved attractions. Carvings on Long Meg have attracted much speculation about their meaning and the messages they carry. Close by are Lacey's Caves, dug by Colonel Lacey, who created five chambers along the bank of the river Eden. The reason why Lacey made the chambers is unknown but they are definitely worth visiting.....
