Hawkshead
Hawkshead is quite possibly one of the most beautiful towns in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. With its policy of 'no cars' (there's a car park just on the outskirts of the village), 17th century buildings and little independent shops, Hawkshead is a honeypot for tourists to the National Park.
Both William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter had a soft spot for the town. The Beatrix Potter Gallery, once the offices of Potter's husband William Heelis, exhibit some of the author and illustrator's original watercolour paintings. Another museum at Hawkshead is located in the Old Grammar School, where Wordsworth was a former pupil. The old classroom and headmaster's study have been converted into an exhibition telling the history of the school and the poet.....
