Gladestry is situated in Powys, Mid Wales. The village lies close to the Welsh border, indeed the village is just 1 mile from the border with England. The old church of St Mary the Virgin is an attractive church with an outstanding pyramidal tower, and although the church was restored in 1910, it still retains some of its original features, such as the 16th century oak roof, the 13th century priest's door in the south wall and the Norman font bowl.
There are several footpaths and bridleways for walkers, cyclists and horseback riders in the area surrounding Gladestry. Walkers on the Offa's Dyke Trail, which passes through the village, en route from Kington to Hay-on-Wye, would particularly remember Gladestry for its location at the end of the western edge of the steep Hergest Ridge. ....
