Fachwen is a village with a view, in Gwynedd, North Wales. The village sits on the lower slopes of Elidir Fawr, overlooking Llyn Padarn and Llanberis, and consists of forty or so ex-miners cottages that were abandoned after the closure of the Dinorwig Quarry in the late 1960's.
It seems that although the locals moved out to what were then the more desirable council houses with modern facilities in nearby villages such as Deiniolen, the English incomers moved in. Today the once abandoned Welsh village is a desirable holiday location with views over Llyn Padarn to die for. Climb the hill to Fachwen in mid september and enjoy an array of colours with the golden flowers of the gorse, purple heather, and bright red rowan berries complementing the autumnal scene.....
