Cotswold Sailing Club, Watersports Cirencester, Gloucestershire - England where to go, what to see and where to stay in Wales

Lake 9 Cirencester Gloucestershire England
The Cotswold Sailing Club is located at Lake 9 (Spinnaker Lake) in the Cotswold Water Park. The club owns the lake and land surrounding it, allowing us great freedom in the way we use it. Club members have access to the lake 24-7 365 days a year, giving time and space for cruising and novice sailors without the pressure of being in the way of racing on a Sunday. The club has a full race calendar that runs throughout the year, including Chiller (Dec/Jan) and Icebreaker (Jan/Feb) series for the hardy. The racing is friendly but competitive, novice and experienced sailors rubbing shoulders (mainly when being lapped). During the summer there can be three race series running concurrently, including Junior (Short Shots) and Start to Race series encouraging novice sailors to take part in racing (a great way to improve sailing abilities). The keen sailors are always available for advice and a helping hand. At the front of the fleet, sailing is to a high standard with several members competing nationally and some internationally. The club also hosts a number of open events including Lightning, Supernova, Phantom and Solo. Club racing is for handicap classes (there is no fleet racing apart from open meetings) although the Short Shots are mainly Toppers and Optimists. The lake side is beautifully kept giving access to the water all the way round the lake. The club works with the Cotswold Water Park to improve the habitat and encourage wild life. There are varied wild fowl that nest at the lake including coots, crested grebes, terns, cormorants and swans. Regatta week is the BIG event of the year, with some form of racing every day (not necessary sailing). For the non-competitive (or non-energetic) there are plenty of other activities to join in with, and plenty of time to natter, drink tea, go for a gently sail round the lake to watch the wild life or a just a cooling swim. Kids can join in with the short shots without taking part in the racing or even the sailing. The club has something for everyone.
