Sarn Helen Dolwyddelan Gwynedd Wales
Cwm Penamnen is a hidden valley situated to the south of the village of Dolwyddelan, in Conwy County, North Wales. The cwm or hanging valley sits between the hills of Y Ro Wen (594m) to the east and Moel Penamnen (623m) to the west. The ancient route of Sarn Helen that linked the Roman forts of Caerhun in the Conwy Valley and Tomen-y-Mur near Trawsfynydd cuts through Cwm Penamnen.
Follow the track through the valley that once echoed to the sound of Roman Legions and later the armies of the Welsh warriors in their battle with the English forces of Edward 1. Alongside the lane are the recently excavated remains of Tai Penamnen the seat of Maredudd ap Ieuan, founder of the Wynns of Gwydir, and former occupier of Dolwyddelan Castle.| Today you might see the occassional walker as there are several trails that pass through or circumvent the peaceful valley of Cwm Penamnen.
