St Dyfnog's Church, Llanrhaeadr, Denbighshire, Wales, Tel: +44 01745890250
The Holy Well of St Dyfnog is situated behind the graveyard at St. Dyfnog's Church, Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, in North Wales. A short walk behind the church leads you to a quiet wooded dell. The water springs from the hillside in several places and collects in a large spa like pool with steps down into the water for the faithfull. The well was reputed to have healing powers, especially for the cure of skin diseases. The magnificent Jesse window in the church was built with money raised from the offerings of pilgrims.
A medieval Welsh poet said he "reveres Dyfnog's effigy, accepts his miracles, praises his miracle working well, which gives grace to all nations and cures all ills..indeed there was none like it."
Sadly the well is now abandoned and in a sorry state, although the shape of the pool and the steps into the water are clearly visible.....
