This 18th-century, Grade II listed building is situated in the delightful village of Llanymynech, which straddles the border of Shropshire, England; and Powys, Wales.
Located on the Offas Dyke long-distance footpath and now under new management, the Cross Keys is a charming, comfortable base for walking holidays and for exploring the beautiful countryside and local heritage sites. The surrounding landscape offers waterfalls, lakes and mountains.
The Welsh border is a few yards away and the historic towns of Shrewsbury and Oswestry are within easy reach.
The restaurant serves excellent modern British food with an emphasis on fine, fresh, free-range local produce.
Behind the hotel is private parking for guests. There is space for up to 15 cars.
The hotel is one of those rare buildings where, by standing in the front door, you can have a foot in 2 countries, England and Wales.
Wines are supplied by an independent wine merchant, who visits many of the vineyards and selects the wines personally.
The bar is an ideal meeting place for guests and local residents. There is a selection of British ales, including local Real Ale from Stonehouse Brewery. Food is served in the bar, with traditional homemade meals on offer.
Other places of interest in the region include Llanymynech Rocks Nature Reserve and the World Heritage Site at Ironbridge is 35 miles (56 km) away.
There are several National Trust properties nearby, including Powis Castle, which is 10 miles (16 km) away; Chirk Castle, which is 14 miles (22.5 km) away; and Attingham Park, which is 22 miles (35 km) from the hotel.
Outdoor activities including quad biking, hovercrafts and canal trips in summer can be arranged in the area surrounding the hotel. Several golf courses are in the area.
By Car (from Wrexham):
- Follow the A483 south, past Pant, towards Llanymynech.
- Continue onto North Road, where you will find the hotel.
By Car (from Shrewsbury):
- Follow the A5 towards Wrexham.
- Exit onto the B4396 for Knocking Heath.
- Exit onto the B4398 for Llanymynech.
- Continue onto Station Road for Llanymynech.
- Turn right onto North Road.

The Cross Keys Hotel has parking available for up to 15 cars, however there is also a large, free car park located just 2 minutes’ walk away.
