Originally a 14th century coaching inn, the Horse & Jockey offers a warm and friendly atmosphere, owned by the same family since 1989.
Situated in Knighton town, close to the Offa's Dyke Centre, the inn offers a cosy lounge bar with log fire and a main bar with weekend entertainment. At the end of the large courtyard is an 80 seater restaurant which offers an extensive menu. Owner and chef Gary Salt can cater for any occasion. Booking is essential at weekends.
New for 2007, 5 en suite rooms have been built in the old hayloft above the restaurant which used to be the stables. The 6th room is found in the cottage. Each room has its own individual character; 5 are twin and one is a large king-size double. All are en suite with a bath and shower, tea and coffee tray and flat screen LCD TV.
700 years ago Knighton was the scene of one of Owain Glyndwr's most famous victories against English invaders. Now it warmly welcomes tourists from all over Europe and beyond to this attractive and interesting border town.
Knighton is steeped in history with sloping winding streets and half timbered houses. It's a good place to stay, whether you are striding the length of Offa's Dyke or exploring the beautiful and fascinating Teme Valley in more leisurely style. On each Thursday livestock comes to market. A lively carnival takes place in August.
By Train:
The inn is beside the train station. Walk along Station Road for about 450 metres. Cross a bridge and take the 2nd right onto Wylcwm Place, where you will find the inn.
By Car:
The A488 (from south-west to north) and A4113 from the east (Birmingham) both lead onto Station Road.
