Enjoying uninterrupted views over parkland towards the River Severn and Wrekin Hill, Cronkhill Farmhouse occupies a delightful elevated position on the National Trust’s Attingham Park Estate.
This spacious, timber framed farmhouse is located in extensive and picturesque grounds including a sun trapped walled garden, fruit trees and brick apple store. Dating from the 17th century and Grade I listed, it was remodelled by John Nash, the famous Regency architect, to match the adjoining property (also National Trust and open 6 days a year).
Cronkhill Farmhouse retains many period details, including beamed ceilings, quarry tile floors and open fireplace. Providing spacious living accommodation, well equipped farmhouse-style kitchen and large dining and entertaining space, it can sleep up to 14. Its idyllic situation combines a very convenient location, close to the bustling town of Shrewsbury and the prettiest villages of Shropshire.
The property is especially popular with families and groups of friends, as it can be adapted to suit their individual needs, with four of the six bedrooms providing either twins or doubles. A la carte catering for special occasions and a freezer filling service are available to pre-book.

Accommodation: Entrance hall/boot room. Large living room with open fire. Spacious dining room. Well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen with electric range. First floor: Two double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Two double bedrooms, each with 6ft bed (can form two 3ft singles) and additional single bed (each for +1). Two further double bedrooms, each with 6ft bed (can form two 3ft singles). Shower room with toilet. Further bathroom with over-bath shower, toilet.
Location: A local post office, shop, gastro pub and traditional country pub are all within ½ mile of Cronkhill. The National Trust’s Attingham Park is just 1 mile away, at the centre of which is a fine Regency mansion set within a deer park designed by Humphrey Repton. There is extensive year round walking to be enjoyed here.
This is an excellent central base from which to explore Shropshire. Shrewsbury lies 3 miles to the north, with its fine period architecture, cinemas, restaurants and excellent shopping. To the south are the spectacular Shropshire Hills and Acton Scott’s Historic Working Farm, as seen on BBC TV’s hit show Victorian Farm and a firm favourite with families. In its medieval castle setting, Ludlow provides a food paradise with Michelin star restaurants and artisan shops galore. Eight miles to the east is the World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge and its many museums. Three ruined abbeys and the remains of the ancient Roman city of Wroxeter are all within a 20-minute drive.
The custodian of Cronkhill Farmhouse is Rupert Acton who helps to manage his family’s Acton Scott estate, famous for providing the film location for BBC TV’s Victorian Farm and new series, Escape in Time, presented by Ben Fogle. A thirty minute drive south of Cronkhill, three further holiday houses may be found at Acton Scott. Henley Farmhouse, sleeps up to 20, ref RJJ3; The Shooting Lodge, sleeps 8 + 3, ref RNP; and Henley Cottage, an authentic Victorian farm labourer’s cottage, sleeps 4+1, ref ROO4.
