Chipping Campden was one of the most important wool towns in the country and the town was planned in the late 12th century. Today it is famed for its well preserved honey coloured limestone buildings, dating from the 14th-17th centuries which contain a wide range of shops, restaurants and good pubs. Each summer Chipping Campden holds the ‘Dover’s Olympic Games,’ first held in the early 1600’s with the permission of King James I. The area abounds with interesting NT houses including Chastleton House, museums and gardens including Hidcote Manor and Kiftsgate Court, both of international renown.
