Tan-y-Cytiau
South Stack, Holyhead. Anglesey, Tel : 01282 847332
This large detached house situated on the side of Holyhead Mountain, close to the lighthouse at South Stack enjoys stunning views out to sea. The holiday property has a large main living area with views across to Trearddur Bay as well as an open fire and large gardens mainly to the front of the house with plenty of space for guests to enjoy dining outdoors. With Trearddur Bay only four miles away and the RSPB sanctuary on the mountain behind the house there are lots of things to do very close by, from diving and sailing to the fantastic coastal walks. There are riding stables near to the property and several quiet coves if the main Blue Flag beaches in Trearddur Bay get a little too busy, and Rhosneigr with two large beaches and many water sports is also nearby. Beaumaris with its shops and restaurants as well as the castle is well worth a visit, and visitors can even take a day trip to Dublin. A little further afield are the mountains of Snowdonia with some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain; Llanberis is about 30 miles from the property and is the starting point for many walks up Snowdon itself, there is also the train for those who prefer the faster way to the top.
The National Trust property Plas Newydd on the banks of the Menai Strait is well worth a visit with tours around the house and extensive gardens and there are many castles to visit in the area from Caernarfon, Conwy, Criccieth, and Dolwyddelan. Other places of interest are Betws-y-coed and Beddgelert, in the heart of the mountains with many wonderful mountain walks. Porthmadog which has Portmeirion, the Italianate village used in The Prisoner, is about an hour away and is also a starting point for the Ffestiniog Mountain Railway which snakes its way though the mountains. Shops 2 miles, pub 3 miles.
