Penybont, a converted water bailiff’s cottage, nestles on the fringes of the Brechfa Forest. It commands a stunning scenic position in the River Cothi Valley among the depths of the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside. Within 45 minutes from the M4, Penybont affords visitors a warm welcome. Brechfa is some 0.8 miles away and is known as the ‘gateway to the Brechfa Forest’, which is an area of some 5800 hectares. The village has a community shop and post office and offers fine dining. There are some very local pubs and restaurants at Abergorlech, Felingwm-uchaf and along the main A40 trunk road. Penybont is situated in a magical ‘away-from-it-all’ location amongst streams and mountains and is perfect for country lovers. All country sports including hunting, pony trekking, game shooting, clay pigeon shooting, salmon and trout fishing, golf, bird-watching and walking in wild and wonderful Brechfa Forest are all locally available.
At Abergorlech, 2 miles away, there is a cycle trail, which has been designed by Rowan Sorrell, a top class designer. This trail is in the Daily Telegraph’s Top 20 Cycle Rides. Bicycles can be hired.
Locally there are the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Gwili Steam Railway, National Botanic Garden of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens, castles and pottery. In Carmarthen, 12 miles away, there are the historic open air and provision market, swimming and leisure facilities, museum and more.
