Built in 1825, Melin y Bont is unusual in that it was once powered by both wind and water. The mill has now been converted and provides visitors with a comfortable and quirky place to stay with its circular walls and excellent panoramic view from the top floor balcony. Sailing, canoeing and kite-surfing are all available in nearby Rhosneigr. Beaumaris makes for a pleasant visit with its historic castle (complete with moat), and Jacobean Courthouse. Trips around Puffin Island are available from the pier to see the nesting razorbills, puffins and guillemots or visit the RSPB centre at South Stack lighthouse.
Other local attractions on Anglesey include the Anglesey Sea Zoo, nature reserves and Plas Newydd, a National Trust property. Climb to the top of South Stack Lighthouse and visit South Stack RSPB centre. There are many coastal walks including the 125 mile coastal path right around the island, whilst the Snowdonia National Park is within easy reach by car giving access to the wonderful mountain walks of the area. For those wishing to go further afield, day trips to Dublin are available via the fast ferry from Holyhead. Shops 2 miles, pub 4 miles.
