Road Travel in Wales: Car, Bus, Coach and Cycle travel information for Wales

Roads

In the north of Wales the main east/west road is the A55 Expressway that travels from the English border in the east, continues along the coastline to its junction with the A5 near to Bangor before crossing the Isle of Anglesey en route to Holyhead and the Irish Ferry.

The other main route in the north of Wales is the A5 itself that cuts diagonally across North Wales. This is the old coach road that linked London to Dublin via Holyhead and the Irish Ferries.

In the South the M4 carries traffic from London, England, in the east as far as Carmarthen in West Wales. From Carmarthen continue on the A40 to Fishguard on the west coast for the Irish Ferries.

The A470 links North Wales to South Wales, from Llandudno in the North to Cardiff in the South. Click here for both our static and interactive road maps of Wales.
