Penllyn lies 2 miles north west of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. The amusements of Barry Island are just 13 miles to the south east, whilst the capital city of Cardiff is less than half an hour away by car.
The Millenium Heritage Trail passes through Penllyn en-route from St Brides Major to Llanharry and beyond.
The castle at Penllyn was built by Robert de Norris, sheriff to the Earl of Gloucester. It was built much like Ogmore castle, with an oblong tower. Little is known of its history, but many presume that it was destroyed by Owain Glyndwr during one of his many attacks. Two walls still survive today and act as a romantic backdrop for Penllyn.
