Llanfaelog can be found on the western side of Anglesey in North Wales. It is bordered by Llanfihangel-yn-Nhywyn to the north, Aberffraw to the south, Pencarnisiog to the east and Rhosneigr to the west. Part of the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path is only 1.5km south west of the village, giving easy access to rural areas of the island.
The village is situated on the western edge of Llyn Maelog, a large lake with camping facilities nearby. The lake is well stocked with fish such as roach, perch, bream and pike. Not only is there fish aplenty, but there is also an abundance of birdlife including mallard, coots, shelducks, coots, snipes, reed warblers, grey heron, black headed gulls and many more.
Just 2km away from Llanfaelog is the award-winning beach of Traeth Llydan (Broad Beach). In 2009 the sandy beach was awarded a Keep Wales Tidy Seaside Award, and it has been noted for its good access to the sands. It is a perfect spot for surfing and bodyboarding, and is an ideal spot for a family day out.
Visitors can explore what the rest of Anglesey has to offer by taking a train from Rhosneigr railway station, just north of Llyn Maelog.
