Fochriw is situated in Caerphilly County, South Wales. It is bordered by Pontlottyn to the north east, Pentwyn to the south, Nant Gyrawd to the west and the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Footpath to the north. Nearby towns and villages include Bargoed, Merthyr Tydfil, Tredegar, Rhymney, and Ebbw Vale.
The Nant Bargod Rhymney (stream) runs through the village on its way from Rhaslas Pond to its confluence with the River Rhymney.
There are many walks criss-crossing the hills and valleys including walks through the Cwmllwydrew Meadows Nature Reserve, and along the Rhymny Valley Ridgeway Walk.
The village church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, was built in 1907. The building contains a chancel, nave, seating for 300 people and a tower with a single bell.
Fochriw is home to many choirs, including the Fohcriw Male Voice Party Choir, the Glee Party, Ladies Choir, Fochriw United Choir and Fochriw Juvenile Choir.
