Beddau is a large village lying 4 miles from Pontypridd in the county of Rhondda Cynnon Taff, South Wales. Its name translates to “graves” in English, but it is a relatively new place.
The church, which is dedicated to St Michael, was built in 1936. It is an unusual yet striking building, with a tower built in the West end, whereas most church towers are built in the East end. A cross pierces the tower and shines brightly at night when the church is lit up. Inside, the blue draperies and white walls symbolise three things: the history of Mankind, the incarnation of Christ and the life of the individual.
Beddau has made its name in the world of rugby, being the hometown of rugby legends Gethin Jenkins, Neil Jenkins and Michael Owen, and also has its own club, Beddau RFC.
