The village of Abergwynant sits on the estuary of the River Mawddach, close to the market town of Dolgellau in Mid Wales. With its picturesque views across the Mawddach estuary and Penmaen Pool, Abergwynant and Arthog are the perfect places to stay in this part of Wales, especially as they are surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the United Kingdom. The historic Welsh town of Dolgellau to the east has long been known for its beautiful walks, either along the Afon Wnion (Wnion river), with its cascading waterfalls, or through the hills and forests of this corner of the Snowdonia National Park. A walk down stream from Abergwynant to the mouth of the estuary (7km) and the setting changes from the typical Welsh market town of Dolgellau to a lively Welsh seaside resort, complete with fairground, hotels, and enough public houses to quench the thirst of those sun burnt holiday makers escaping from the golden sands of Barmouth beach. Anglers appreciate the opportunities for fishing at Barmouth and whether it's from the beaches or the harbour walls you will always find some one casting out in search of that elusive sea bass.
