The village of Abergwesyn sits at the confluence of the River Gwesyn and the River Irfon some 8.2km north of Llanwrtyd Wells in Powys, North Wales. The countryside around Abergwesyn is dominated by the mountains and forests so typical of this part of rural Mid Wales. Mynydd Trawsant stands 3 miles south west of the village, whilst the 436m Bryn Mawr is located 1.5 mile north east of Abergwesyn. Some say the road north out of Abergwesyn through the Abergwesyn Pass to Tregaron offers some of the finest, though also most rugged, scenery in Wales.

The River Irfon passes through Abergwesyn on its journey south to the River Wye just outside Builth Wells. On either side of Abergwesyn are two large forests, Nant yr Hwch to the west and Cefn Garw to the east, whilst there are remains of an old church in the village itself.
