The Shropshire town of Whitchurch lies on the Welsh border, 25.7km east of Wrexham in North Wales, and borders the famous Llangollen Canal. A cycle route runs through Whitchurch, leading to the village of Hollyhurst on the edge of Combermere Park 5.5km north east of the town, whilst a part of the Shropshire Way also passes through the western side of Whitchurch. The route when marked on a map of the county loosely resembles a 'hangman's noose' with the rope dangling from the northern border of Shropshire at Grindley Brook, with the circular loop taking you to Shrewsbury, then via Lyth Hill further south into the Shropshire Hills. The Hill Valley golf club, with an 18 hole golf course, is just 2.8km north of the town centre, bordering the B5476 road. Other attractions include the Brown Moss nature reserve 3km south west near the village of Edgeley, and the Wildfowl Sanctuary along the Llangollen Canal 5km north west of Whitchurch town centre.
