The village of Llanbadrig is situated on the north western tip of the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. The name translates as “Church of Saint Patrick”, after the church which was built here by the saint. Nearby villages include Amlwch, three and a half miles west of Llanbadrig, Llanerchymedd, seven miles north west of the village, and the coastal resort of Cemaes, 1.2 miles south west.
Returning to St Patrick's church, this building holds a lot of interest and importance. It is believed that after being shipwrecked, St Patrick swam to the rocky outcrop of Middle Mouse, also known as Patrick Island. Finding refuge in a cave and surviving off water from a well, he began to build the church in Llanbadrig and founded it himself in 440 AD. The church can still be visited today and there is an interesting ancient, black gravestone to be found at the base of the west wall.....
