Draethen is situated in the county borough of Caerphilly in South Wales. It is bordered by Bedwas to the west, Rhiwderin to the east, Michaelston-y-Fedw to the south east and Lower Machen to the north, with nearby towns and villages including Risca, Rogerstone, Crosskeys and the capital city of Cardiff.
Caerphilly, some 3 miles from Draethen, is well known for its famous cheese and castle, the second largest castle in Europe. Each summer the two combine to host the Big Cheese Festival at Caerphilly Castle which combines historical re-enactments, arts and crafts displays, a funfair and a fireworks display.....
