Abercarn is situated between Newbridge and Crosskeys in Caerphilly county, South Wales. It was formerly a mining village, with many collieries set up in the surrounding hills and mountains. Not only was coal important to Abercarn, but ironworks and tinplate works were also opened. However, the works and mines have long since closed and today Abercarn has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The village is home to the Abercarn Rugby Club which is part of the Welsh Rugby Union.
