Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay is the home of the new Welsh Rugby Union north Wales side - Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (North Wales Rugby). Known as RGC 1404, and shortened again to RGC the team has performed well in its first season.
A number of improvements have been made to upgrade the Eirias Park stadium with an eventual goal of becoming the fifth Welsh rugby region, including a state of the art indoor rugby
training pitch, floodlights, a 2,000-seat grandstand, a weights room and additional car parking.
Several International Rugby matches were played at Parc Eirias in the autumn of 2012 and the competition was deemed a great success.
In the summer of 2012 singer and entertainer Olly Murs and others appeared at the successful Access All Eirias event in Eirias Park...or is it Parc Eirias.
Hmmm - they are having a bit of a branding problem at the moment with locals calling the park Eirias Park, which has always been its name, and the local authority attempting to rebrand it with the Welsh version "Parc Eirias". What with Porth Eirias, the watersports centre at the bottom of the hill, many of the locals, including myself, are just confused!
However Conwy County and Welsh Rugby have to be congratulated for all their efforts and there are proposals for more International Matches in the park, and for more big name stars like Olly to appear at the park for at least the next two years.
