The first place you should visit when you come to
Llandudno, 'Queen of the Welsh Resorts'.
The tramway is actually a funicular railway - a system where two
tramcars are moved up and down hill by cable. As one comes down the
Great Orme it helps to pull the other one up using a system of
counterbalanced weights. It's one of only two tramways in Europe which
operate on public streets, and this year it celebrates its 100th
birthday. It operates from March to October, and averages 5,000 trips
per year, transporting 120,000 passengers. As the tramway takes you up
the Great Orme you will find yourself enjoying a thrilling view of one
of Britain's finest Victorian seaside towns. Llandudno's long crescent
promenade, wide shopping streets, sweeping sands and wealth of family
attractions make it a perfect destination for a short holiday, weekend
break or day trip.
