The Gwydyr Forest Marin Mountain Bike Trail covers a distance of 15miles, 25km, with a climb of 450m. Expect to take between 2 - 4 hours. The trail is suitable for experienced mountain bikers.
Gwydyr Forest is to be found between the towns of Llanrwst and Betws-Y-Coed in the beautiful Conwy Valley, North Wales. Situated in the heart of the breathtaking scenery of the Snowdonia national park yet less than an hour from English motorways.
The Marin Trail, built in association with Marin bikes, leaves from Forestry Commission Wales's Gwydyr Uchaf and Sawbench car parks, a couple of miles north of Betws-y-Coed, and due west of Llanrwst. Long challenging climbs lead to miles of brand new technical singletrack weaving through trees and boulders, across streams and down snaking ridge lines to get your heart and brakes pumping. Alternatively you can explore the hundreds of km of fire road trails yourself.
Whichever you choose, cascading waterfalls, crystal clear lakes, awe inspiring mountain vistas and forgotten river valleys deep in the Gwydyr forest provide a stunning scenic backdrop.
Marin Trail 2013
Didn't quite make it round the full trail as I had a puncture and was in a hurry to watch Wales beat England in the Rugby 6 Nations...
Being rather unfit I thought the route was excellent but hard work, but with taking it steady not impossible to complete. I had done 12Km of the trail before the flat tyre forced me to run back to the car park (a 7Km run - phew). I'll definitely be back to give the full run another go.
