Welshpool has a long and colourful past and the town first appears in historical records in the 13th Century. This is reflected in the many features and buildings of historical value in both Welshpool High Street and Broad Street.
Many of the buildings are of special interest for the richness of their
timberwork and represent fine examples of 16th, 17th and 18th Century
timber framed buildings.
A few examples of historic houses include : No’s 9 - 11 High Street
- timber framed buildings dating from the early 16th century; the
Talbot Inn - another example of a 16th century timber framed building;
the Mermaid Inn - timber framed and has been an Inn for at least 200
Welshpool's role as the centre of an agricultural community, is reflected in the quality local produce on display in shops and the High Street
promotes local crafts and items of a Welsh flavour. A unique blend of
shops offers the shopper the opportunity to pick up items difficult to
find elsewhere; from arts & crafts to fashion & leisure, fresh
food & wine and lots more.
