Amlwch Port is located on the northern coastline of
Anglesey North Wales. Today the harbour is used for leisure craft and a
small fishing industry that includes fishing trips and lobster and crab
fishing in the Irish Sea. There is little sign that in the 1800's Amlwch
Port was the world's most important exporter of copper. Nor indeed
that the history of Amlwch Port and the nearby Parys Mountain Copper
Mine go back to the Bronze and Roman Ages. In later years the harbour
gained fame for its shipbuilding prowess and hopes are high that the
harbour and the remaining buildings including a sail loft, workshop
chimneys, a dry dock, a watch house with its little lighthouse and
several copper bins, can be developed into a heritage centre.
