Benllech Beach is on the east coast of Anglesey, North Wales. It is a beautiful beach with golden sands, rock pools and a small stream running down to the sea. Children particularly like it for catching crabs,... well my grand children did! In the summer holidays it is a very busy little beach, but in a nice quiet sort of way. On the day we visited there were organised beach games for the children, but the beach is wide enough to find a quiet spot if you so wish. The beach is popular for windsurfing, surfing, canoeing, sailing and just plain swimming and sunbathing. There are pleasant walks in either direction from Benllech Beach. There are restrictions on dogs but the Beach Rangers have a difficult job enforcing the rules. Facilities include toilets with good disabled facilities and access for young families, and there are a variety of shops and cafes close to the beach. Parking is available in the Car Park on the promenade.
Having been to benllech loads of times and been very happy with its cleanliness my mum suggested we took the dogs there. We got there all was well the dogs were having a great time, we started to notice a horrible smell and saw that the sand and rock pools were covered in browny green muck (sewage) the dogs started eating it and licking it up we carried on for a bit but it was getting silly, we ended up walking back to the car on the coastal path (v pretty). Both dogs were eating loads of grass and were both v sick, my puppy was fine after this but mums dog started to bloat, whimper and shake. She was taken to the vets and has had her stomach pumped and bowel flushed. She has never eaten sand before but the sewage made it all too tempting. I'm glad we didn't have children with us as they would have been covered in poo! They should have closed the beach until high tide had washed the sewage away. Instead mums dog is very poorly and we won't be visiting benllech again.
