Marine Life on Colwyn Bay beach was revealed following
storms coinciding with high spring tides. Sea creatures washed ashore
included whelks, cockles, mussels, star fish, razor clams, sea slugs,
anemones and several octopus (which unfortunately were dead - probably
stranded by the receding tide).
The number of cockles on the beach was perhaps the
most striking feature as until recently Colwyn Bay was not noted for
cockles ... mussels yes .... but cockles were very rare on the beach.
Following the storms the cockles and razor clams were to be found in
great numbers among the rocks making up the rock breakwaters / groynes.
